KABUL: The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has launched the largest-ever single-nation appeal for Afghanistan. UNICEF, the world's largest-ever single-nation, appeal for USD2 billion on Tuesday to address Afghanistan's humanitarian needs, UNICEF said  In a statement.

 According to sources, the agency's appeal will aid in preventing the impending collapse of health, nutrition, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), education, and other critical social services for children and families. The humanitarian situation in Afghanistan has deteriorated since the Taliban took control of the country on August 15 and formed a Taliban-led caretaker government on September 7.

"The humanitarian situation in Afghanistan continues to deteriorate, with alarming disruptions in health and nutrition services, a disastrous food crisis, drought, outbreaks of measles, acute watery diarrhoea, polio, and other preventable diseases, as well as the crippling onset of winter," according to the statement. According to Alice Akunga, the UNICEF Afghanistan Representative, the current humanitarian situation in Afghanistan is severe, particularly for children. Without additional funds, the agency and its partners will be unable to reach the children and families who are in desperate need, she added.
