Almost one child in Ukraine is becoming a refugee of the war every second, according to UN humanitarians, as the total number of individuals who have fled the nation since the Russian invasion began surpassed three million.

"We have now passed the three million threshold in terms of people leaving Ukraine for neighbouring nations. There are around 157,000 third-country nationals among these migrants "Speaking in Geneva, Paul Dillon, spokesperson for the International Organization for Migration (IOM), said

Since the Russian invasion began on February 24, 1.5 million children have joined the migration from Ukraine, at a rate of slightly under one every second.

"Over the last 20 days, more than 70,000 children have become refugees in Ukraine. Every minute, 55 children flee the country "said James Elder, a spokesperson for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). Elder emphasised that children are susceptible to traffickers as they arrive in unfamiliar new environments, pointing out that nine out of ten of individuals fleeing persistent violence in Ukraine are women and children.
