First Budget for Short Time...

For information, the first Union Budget was presented after Independence from 15th August 1947 to 31st March 1948. However, because of the India-Pakistan division, it could not be planned for the stipulated time and then the first Budget was presented by the then Finance Minister R.K. Shanmukham Chetti on 26th November 1947.

These three Prime Ministers had presented the Budget.

More importantly, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi are the three Prime Ministers who have presented the Budget as Prime Minister. Indira Gandhi also took over as Finance Minister in 1970 and thus became the first woman finance minister to present the Indira Gandhi Budget in 1970. After 49 years, the budget is going to be presented to Nirmala Sitharaman as the second woman finance minister.
