Union Budget 2021: Here’s what Indian Railways sector can expect

Earlier, the railway budget and the Union Budget were presented separately. Union Budget session will get started where Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is all set to table the budget on February 1 in the parliament for the upcoming financial year 2021-22. The budget mainly focuses on reviving the pandemic hit economy.

Every sector is hoping for good and satisfactory results including the Indian Railways from this year’s budget as the railways were also among the sectors and industries hit by the coronavirus pandemic. When the country was dealing with the impact of the coronavirus, and all the services and activities came to a halt. Railways played a major role in such a difficult time as their services were partially active during the pandemic and it helped the migrants to reach back home. Here is what are the expectations for the Railway sector in Union Budget 2021-22?

- Railways is expecting that Finance Minister could allocate around Rs 1.79 lakh crore for railways of which Rs 75,000 crore will be gross budgetary support. This time it is estimated to be 7 percent higher than the previous ones.

- This year it is expected that the center may announce some high-speed trains that could connect tourist hubs, pilgrimage spots, and other crucial areas.

- The budget could also include plans to help the Vision 2024 of the railways' ministry. It may also make a special allocation for 'green railways' projects to give a boost to a fully green country by 2030.

- It is also expected that Finance Minister may announce the expansion plan on the bullet train in the country. 

- The government may also announce a few Tejas trains and some railway lines that could move agri goods at a faster pace.
