On Friday, former Union Minister and Socialist leader Beni Prasad Verma, who was a minister in the state government, died at half past six in the evening. Due to ill health, he was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Lucknow at 2 pm on Friday. Known as 'Beni Babu', Verma was one of the founding members of the Samajwadi Party and was considered close to Mulayam Singh Yadav. Beni Prasad Verma was a Rajya Sabha member of the Samajwadi Party. Many leaders including Mulayam and SP President Akhilesh have mourned his death.

79-year-old elderly socialist leader Beni Prasad Verma, who was the Minister of Steel at the Center, had been admitted for treatment twice in one and a half months. He was suffering from many diseases including breathlessness. According to Dr. Rakesh Kapoor, Medical Director of Medanta Hospital Lucknow, he was undergoing treatment for about one and a half months. He had a problem of pancreatitis. Doctors had expressed the possibility of cancer in the pancreas. He was suffering from arthritis as well as kidney disease. On Friday afternoon, he was brought into unconsciousness, doctors tried hard, but he died at half past six in the evening.

Beni, a native of Barabanki, was currently living in the cease-fire section of Gomtinagar. His last rites will be performed at 11 am on Saturday in his village in Barabanki. SP Patron Mulayam Singh Yadav and National President Akhilesh Yadav expressed grief over his death and said that the party had suffered a lot due to the death of Beni Babu. God bless his soul.
