KOHIMA: Nagaland marked the International Day of Yoga-2022 on Tuesday with the theme "Yoga for Humanity."
The major event took place in Naga Heritage Village in Kisama, which is about 12 kilometres south of the state capital.
The event was attended by many bureaucrats, security personnel, and school and college students, including Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore, Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Minister S Pangnyu Phom, and many bureaucrats, security personnel, and school and college students.
Addressing the audience, Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore said that yoga enhances physical well-being, mental stability, and combats numerous ailments such as asthma, blood pressure, and blood sugar, among others. Yoga is similar to insurance for all of us, he said, adding that regular yoga practise is a requirement if one wants to be healthy.
The union minister is hopeful that if everyone does yoga on a daily basis, everyone would be in good health and the country will be healthy. He urged everyone to practise yoga in order to stay healthy and to encourage others to do so as well.
In his remarks, Nagaland Health Minister Phom stated that yoga has numerous health benefits and urged everyone to use it as a tool to help oneself improve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. He also urged residents of the state to inculcate and imbibe yoga for a healthier lifestyle, claiming that regular yoga practise can boost the body's metabolism and help fight epidemics and other diseases.
Three government ministries – Health and Family Welfare, Youth Resources, and Sports and Tourism – collaborated to put on the state-level event.
