Jammu: 12 persons lost their lives in a stampede between 2 pm and 3 pm in the building of Mata Vaishno Devi Temple in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir. 13 people have been injured. The condition of 2 to 3 persons is critical. It may be recalled that since the incident, questions have been raised about the security arrangements in the temple. Talking about the incident, Union Home Minister Nityanand averred that the crowd at gate number three led to a stampede on the slope. He said some youths standing in the queue got into an argument.

Then, people fell one by one and the atmosphere deteriorated. He said that people were being sent properly from the bottom but things worsened when they reached the top. He said PM Narendra Modi himself is monitoring the entire issue. On the other hand, the LG Jammu and Kashmir office said that high-level investigation orders have been issued for the stampede. The Inquiry Committee will be headed by Principal Secretary (Home), consisting of ADGP, Jammu and Divisional Commissioner, Jammu.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that despite the corona guidelines, people did not agree and thronged. Young people, in particular, do not understand at all. It may be recalled that PM Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences to the families of those killed in the accident and directed all possible treatment of the injured. The PM has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each from the PM national relief fund and 50,000 rupees to the injured. Narendra Modi tweeted, "Deeply saddened by the death of people in the stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan.''
