Shillong: United Democratic Party President Metbah Lyngdoh on Friday wrote a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. In the letter, he put forth his suggestions on the 'One Hundred and Twenty Five (Amendment) Bill-2019'. The letter said the UDP considered the issues and concerns raised by the state's "autonomous district council" for some suggestions of the "Parliamentary Standing Committee" in its party meeting held on Tuesday.

The party supports the decision of the ADC to continue the age-old customary laws and practices in matters of governance and administration of the tribal people of Meghalaya State. Therefore, the party requested the concerned authority to review the decision in this regard.

The UDP also supported the demand for increasing the KHADC (Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council) seats from 30 to 37; And also in sub-section (b) of Article 12A of the Constitution of India, for the word 'Governor', the word 'President'. The UDP president also said that he expected the state government's stance to be in line with that of the ADC; And will give positive results as per the expectations of the people of the state.
