Geneva: The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has asked the whole world to show solidarity to improve the situation in flood-hit Pakistan. UNGA has appealed to the international community to show the political will to help Pakistan recover from the situation. Related points have been included in a resolution passed in UNGA. Let us tell you that in June this year, there was a terrible flood in Pakistan, after which Pakistan suffered heavy losses. Lakhs of people were rendered homeless, many of whom are still forced to live in rescue camps.

The resolution also called for the United Nations (UN) to intensify efforts to "sensitize the international community" to Pakistan's needs and to "mobilize effective, immediate and adequate international support and assistance". Significantly, about 33 million people have been affected due to floods in Pakistan. More than 1,700 people died in the mid-June floods. Some 8 million people were displaced and many still live in refugee camps.

United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said that due to the floods, more than two million homes in Pakistan have been damaged or destroyed and farmers' crops have been destroyed. He said that the disaster could push more than 1.5 crore people into poverty. Meanwhile, there is also a possibility of spread of diseases spread by mosquitoes among the people living in the camps.
