UTTAR PRADESH: In a tragic accident on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Unnao district, Uttar Pradesh, 18 people lost their lives and more than 19 were injured when a double-decker sleeper bus collided with a milk tanker on Wednesday.
UP Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak stated that all nearby hospitals have been put on high alert. "Eighteen people have died, and 19 have been injured and sent to the Unnao district hospital. The injured are being transferred to higher-level hospitals. All hospitals near Unnao are on alert," Pathak confirmed.
Pathak also mentioned that the trauma center at KGMO is on standby. "I have reviewed all arrangements. Most of the injured are from Bihar, and we are in contact with the Bihar government. The cause of the accident will be determined after an investigation, but our priority now is to ensure the injured receive proper treatment," he added.
Unnao District Magistrate Gaurang Rathi provided more details: "There were about 57 passengers on the private bus heading to Delhi. At 5:15 am, the bus collided with a milk tanker, resulting in 18 deaths and 19 injuries. Around 20 passengers are safe and being sent to Delhi. Six of the injured have been referred to the Trauma Centre, while the rest will be treated at the district hospital. We have sufficient treatment arrangements and will take all necessary actions promptly."
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and directed the district administration to ensure proper treatment for the injured. He also wished them a speedy recovery.
The accident occurred near Gadha Village in the Behtamujawar Police Station area, involving a double-decker sleeper bus traveling from Motihari, Bihar, to Delhi, which collided with a milk tanker from behind. Upon notification, local police, led by Circle Officer Arvind Chaurasia from Bangarmau, promptly arrived at the scene to begin rescue operations.
