New Delhi: On Thursday,  State-run oil marketing companies left prices of petrol unchanged for the second consecutive day, while diesel prices went up by 5-6 paise across major cities in the country. In the National capital Delhi, petrol price is stable at Rs 7o.44 and diesel is priced at Rs 65.56 a litre as compared to Rs 65.51 on Wednesday, according to data from Indian Oil Corporation website.

 It is to be noted  that retail fuel prices in Delhi are the cheapest among all metros and most state capitals due to lower taxes. While In Mumbai, petrol is retailing at Rs 76.08 while diesel costs Rs 68.65 a litre, 6 paise higher than yesterday's price. Citizens in Chennai have to shell out Rs 73.11 for a litre of petrol while diesel is sold at Rs 69.25 per litre.  Petrol price in Kolkata left unchanged at Rs 72.55 per litre, while diesel prices climbed to Rs 67.34, a 5 paisa per litre jump on Thursday.

However, petrol in Noida costs Rs 70.34 per litre and Rs 71.35 in Gurugram, no variation in rates compared to yesterday’s price. Diesel is priced at Rs 64.80 per litre in Noida and Rs 65.39 in Gurugram, costlier by 5 paise and 4 paise respectively. Retail fuel prices were on Tuesday slashed, and petrol became cheaper by 14-16 paise across major cities of the country while diesel became cheaper by 10-11 paise per litre.

On Thursday, in the international oil market, crude prices dropped amid US crude inventories rose but OPEC-led supply cuts and Washington’s curbs against Venezuela supported markets. International Brent crude oil futures were trading at USD $62.43 per barrel, down 26 cents, or 0.4 per cent, from their last close.
