Guwahati: In Assam, National Citizenship Register (NRC) Coordinator Hitesh Dev Sarma has ordered the removal of the names of ineligible people from all the district officials of Assam from the list. In August last year, the final list of NRC was shared, in which 19 lakh people were shown the way out.

This decision has been taken by the NRC when there was a demand from the BJP government in the state that about 10-20% of the list should be re-verified. In his letter to the district authorities, Hitesh Dev Sarma has said that the names of some foreigners, dutiful voters and others have come out in the NRC list, in such a case, the names of those people should be excluded from the list. Hitesh Dev Sarma while talking to a private news channel has told that many such cases have come to the fore where the names of such people have been added to the list.

He further said that that's why we have asked to remove the names of such people from the list. According to the order, after removing his name from the NRC list, verification has to be done so that his name is not added to this list by mistake again. After this process, the district authorities will have to submit the complete list to the State NRC Coordinator.
