Assam govt has decided to ban all unvaccinated people in public places, citing an increase in COVID-19 infections caused by the highly contagious Omicron strain.

In Assam, vaccination is not required, but those who refuse to be vaccinated must stay at home. "Despite the fact that COVID-19 vaccination is not necessary, people who are not vaccinated are unable to attend meetings, visit offices, or dine in restaurants. Those who refuse to be vaccinated may choose to stay at home "Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister, says

"People who do not want to take vaccine shots can stay at home, If requested in Assam, one will be required to present a vaccination certificate," Sarma added.

On Monday, the state had its single largest increase in coronavirus infections, with 6,982 new illnesses reported. According to the official decree, people who have not received both doses of the Covid vaccine will be refused entry to restaurants, stores, malls, and other public places in the state, with the exception of hospitals. Government personnel who have been twice vaccinated will be permitted to work.

According to the most recent data, Assam's daily positivity rate rose from 7.87 percent on Thursday, the day before the Bihu celebration, to 10.75 percent on Monday night, up from 0.77 percent on January 1. During this time, eleven people died on a regular basis, the highest number in six months.
