In Uttar Pradesh, the country's largest state, the defection has begun before the assembly elections. Ambika Chaudhary, one of the strongest leaders of Purvanchal, quit the BSP on Saturday. He is said to be joining the Samajwadi Party (SP) soon.

In fact, the Samajwadi Party has given another blow to the BSP today. Senior leader Ambika Chaudhary has resigned from BSP. Ambika is considered to be the great leader of Purvanchal. He has also served as a Minister in the previous Samajwadi Party Governments. It may be recalled that samajwadi party has declared Ambika Chaudhary's son Anand Chaudhary as the candidate for zilla panchayat president. After which Ambika Chaudhary resigned from BSP today. He will join the Samajwadi Party again soon.

In the last few days, several BSP Congress leaders have joined the Samajwadi Party. BSP chief Mayawati had also attacked Akhilesh Yadav over the issue. He said, the samajwadi party's position has deteriorated to such an extent that it is now expelling former MLAs and small workers who have been expelled from the other party and have become ineffective in their constituency to remain in the media day after day. Mayawati hit out at Akhilesh saying that it seems that the Samajwadi Party chief no longer believes in his local leaders and hence continues to involve small BSP leaders in the party.
