LUCKNOW: The students of Classes 9 to 12 in Uttar Pradesh  Board will study the biography of Veer Savarkar.  Alongside Savarkar, the syllabus also encompasses chapters on the lives of 50 other eminent personalities. These individuals, such as Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, Mahavir Jain, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, Arvind Ghosh, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Sarojini Naidu, Nana Saheb, Chandra Shekhar, and Ramkrishna Paramhans, among others, have been included with the intention of reinforcing the moral and cultural values of the students who will eventually contribute to nation-building.

According to Gulab Devi, the education minister of Uttar Pradesh, the incorporation of these chapters aims to nurture the character and values of the youth, empowering them to become responsible citizens of the nation. However, the opposition parties have expressed their frustration and criticism regarding this decision.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) has particularly urged the UP government to reconsider its choice to include a chapter on Veer Savarkar. SP spokesman Sunil Sajan argues that the state government should apologize to the countless freedom fighters for glorifying Savarkar, who allegedly betrayed their sentiments by apologizing to the British rulers. This demand by the SP has further fueled the ongoing controversy surrounding the syllabus update.

The Significance of Veer Savarkar's Biography in the UP Board Syllabus- The addition of Veer Savarkar's biography to the UP Board syllabus holds great significance in terms of promoting historical awareness and instilling patriotic values among students. Veer Savarkar, also known as Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, played a pivotal role in India's struggle for independence. By including Savarkar's biography, the UP Board aims to shed light on the courageous acts and ideologies of this remarkable freedom fighter. The inclusion of chapters on various historical figures in the UP Board syllabus is an endeavor to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of India's rich cultural heritage and the diverse contributions of its leaders.
