Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the development of a new eco-friendly commercial vehicles plant for Ashok Leyland in Lucknow. The company plans to inject between Rs 200 to 500 crore in the initial phase, with a total investment reaching Rs 1,000 crore.

Spanning across 70 acres, the facility will primarily focus on manufacturing electric buses, alongside the potential to produce vehicles fueled by current and emerging alternative fuels.

This plant marks Ashok Leyland's seventh establishment in the country. Initially, it aims to produce 2,500 vehicles annually, with plans to double capacity to 5,000 vehicles yearly over the next ten years, aligning with the anticipated surge in demand for electric and other vehicle types.

Dheeraj Hinduja, Executive Chairman of Ashok Leyland, expressed confidence in the positive impact of the facility on employment and sustainable mobility goals. He emphasized the company's dedication to innovation in green mobility and achieving net-zero emissions.

Shenu Agarwal, MD and CEO of Ashok Leyland, underscored the importance of the plant in meeting the rising demand for electric vehicles and contributing to regional development.

Chief Minister Adityanath commended Hinduja Group and Ashok Leyland for their initiative, citing Uttar Pradesh's investor-friendly policies. He highlighted the state's electric vehicle policy, offering incentives of up to Rs 20 lakh for each electric bus, which he believes will attract both investors and buyers. Adityanath also mentioned the launch of investment projects worth over Rs 10.24 lakh crore by the Prime Minister, signifying the state's commitment to economic growth and sustainability.
