LUCKNOW: Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, has mandated that all puja pandals and religious events should compulsorily carry out fire and security audits.

He has asked the organisersof all such events to adhere to the rules governing electrical setups and fire safety. The action follows a massive fire in a puja pandal in the Bhadohi area on Sunday night that was apparently started by a short-circuit and resulted in five fatalities and more than 60 injuries.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the district administrations to make certain this by talking to all organisers this festive season.

He  has also suggested that an awareness campaign be launched in this area. All fire and electrical safety precautions in public and governmental buildings have been examined over the last five months.

At locations such as banks, schools, coaching centres, hospitals, nursing homes, malls and multiplexes, industrial establishments, petrol pumps, governmental buildings, and residences over 15 metres in height, weekly audits and mock drills were conducted.

It would be in everyone's best interests to again conduct the review at buildings with a high daily foot traffic, said a senior official. "Such audits are typically conducted annually but to avoid a similar incident, especially with high temperatures which could have put a greater stress on electrical connections, it would be in everyone's best interests to again carry out the review," he added.
