New Delhi: Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister-elect of Uttar Pradesh, met with President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday,   during his first visit to the national capital after the Bharatiya Janata party registered a thumping victory in the state assembly polls.

Adityanath had seen Union Minister Nitin Gadkari earlier in the day at the latter's residence in New Delhi. Adityanath thanked Gadkari in Hindi in a tweet, saying, "Your special assistance is greatly appreciated in bringing the vision of 'New Uttar Pradesh' to life. Thank you very much, Honourable Union Minister, for giving up so much of your time." In the just concluded election in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP won 255 seats and the SP 111.

Adityanath is also likely to meet BJP's poll in-charge for U.P. and Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and co-in-charge and Union minister Anurag Thakur.

Yogi Adityanath would be the first Chief Minister to return to power after serving a complete term in the state in 37 years. The BJP government is expected to assume office after Holi, which falls on March 18 this year, according to sources.
