Bareilly: Cases of rape and abuse are heard regularly nowadays. It seems like society has left all its shame and has become a curse to girls. Recently, a case has come to light where again a 21-year-old woman was raped and set afire. She was admitted to hospital after the incident but burn injuries were so severe that she died.

The victim a month after she was allegedly raped and set afire lost the battle for life in a Lucknow hospital. The victim is identified as a 21-year-old student of a degree college which is run by former Union Minister Swami Chinmayanand. She was found abandoned near a highway in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur on February 22. After which she was taken to hospital for treatment but couldn't survive.  Police superintendent S Anand said that "her body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Investigation regarding the case is still on.”  According to the police statement, the woman was found with serious burn injuries seven hours after her father dropped her at her college. The 21-year-old was allegedly set on fire by three seniors after a failed rape attempt.  Now, the accused have been arrested along with a woman for allegedly introducing the 21-year-old to them.

Shahjahanpur SSP S Anand says “We had ensured best possible treatment for the victim. We are yet to receive her autopsy report. We have arrested the accused." The 21-year-old has named the four in her statement to a magistrate,  Anand said the accused will now be booked for murder as well.
