UP Cops Book Bhim Army Chief along With 400 Others Over Hathras Visit

Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad has been charged for violating Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure which forbade the large gatherings. Next day after visiting the family of the girl, who died after being purportedly assaulted and gang-raped by four men. Uttar Pradesh police had lodged an F.I.R on Monday against Mr. Azad under Section 144. An F.I.R has also been registered against Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) vice-president Jayant Chaudhary under Section 188 of the IPC. Around 400 others who belong to these groups have also been booked; their identities are under-identification.

On Sunday when RLD workers tried to break a barricade in the village they were stopped by a Lathi charge. But later they were allowed to meet them. Other political leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi also made attempts to meet the family members last week and were stopped from reaching the village by the police as later Priyanka had posted demands on behalf of the family.

"I have not met them for a long time, the situation does not seem to be any good. We will brief the press after meeting the family," Azad had said before meeting the family. "I have just left my family from Hathras and am shocked. My sister's mother and father were both crying and saying urging us that son, take us from here. My family is being intimidated, I want to take the family along but the administration refused, we will appeal in the court tomorrow," Azad tweeted this in Hindi.
