Lucknow: Samajwadi Party has announced that party national president and former CM Akhilesh Yadav will contest from Karhal assembly seat in Mainpuri. Tell me Akhilesh Yadav is going to contest the assembly elections for the first time. Earlier, SP national spokesperson Ashutosh Verma had informed that Akhilesh will be the party's candidate from Karhal seat in Mainpuri. Tell me Akhilesh is currently an MP from Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat. Earlier, there were speculations that he would contest from an assembly seat in his own Lok Sabha constituency.

It may be recalled that, the Karhal assembly seat has been occupied by the SP seven times. Even after the BJP wave in the 2017 assembly elections, SP candidate Sobaran Yadav got more than one lakh votes and defeated his nearest rival Prem Shakya by more than 38,000 votes. About 20 years ago, in 2002, the BJP last won from the seat. Sobaran Yadav was the BJP candidate at that time.

Akhilesh's father SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav is currently an MP from Mainpuri. He has been elected as an MP from here for the fifth time. The SP mp has been elected from Mainpuri seat for the last nine times. Mulayam is also closely related to Karhal. He was educated at Jain Inter College here and was also a teacher here. It is believed that the seat is safe for Akhilesh Yadav.
