Lucknow: Aparna Yadav, the daughter-in-law of Samajwadi Party (SP) founder Mulayam Singh, was seeking a ticket from the Cantt assembly seat in uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow,  but the BJP has fielded Brijesh Pathak from here. Brajesh Pathak, the law minister in the Yogi government, was elected from Lucknow Central last time on a BJP ticket, but this time he has been given a ticket from Lucknow Cantt.

Bjp MP from Prayagraj Rita Bahuguna Joshi was also seeking a ticket for her son Mayank Joshi from the same seat. Before being an MP, Rita herself had been an MLA from this seat twice. Aparna Yadav, who recently joined the BJP, was also preparing to contest from this Lucknow Cantt seat. In the 2017 elections, Aparna Yadav had contested from the same seat, but Rita Bahuguna Joshi defeated her. The BJP rejected the demand of both the leaders.

Talking  about the 2017 elections, the BJP had given ticket to Rita Bahuguna Joshi, who left the Congress and joined the party, from the Lucknow Cantt assembly seat. This woman leader defeated her nearest rival and retained the seat. However, Rita Bahuguna Joshi resigned from the membership of the Assembly after being elected to the Lok Sabha.  In 2019, by-elections were held in which BJP's Suresh Chandra Tiwari was elected.
