Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is going to take a major step to increase the employment opportunities in the state. The government is going to bring in a policy to encourage retail trade. According to this policy, the government will set up retail parks and retail zones in major cities. The policy will also cover retailers who buy goods from the last person and sell it to the general consumer. In addition to multi-brand retail, supermarket, hypermarket, 'single brand retailer' making and selling their products under one roof will also be a part of it. The policy aims to create 20,000 new jobs in the next five years.

State Government will encourage an increase in employment opportunities for women in retail trade policy. According to the proposal, setting up of retail chains will target investment of at least Rs 1,000 crore and employment to 1500 people. It proposes to make it mandatory to provide employment to at least 20 per cent of women. It will be necessary to take at least 40 per cent of the product in the retail unit from at least 50 producers in UP. The facilities proposed under the policy will be available on setting up of such units.

Government plans to give 100 per cent stamp duty, electricity duty exemption for 10 years to retail sector investors. It is also proposed to provide skill development subsidy and reimbursement at one rupee per unit of electricity for five years. There is also a plan to make necessary changes in the law to relax many existing provisions related to ground coverage, floor-to-floor height, building's height, additional space and parking norms for the establishment of retail parks and retail zones. This decision of the government can prove to be quite a relief in this recessionary environment.
