Lucknow: In Uttar Pradesh, about two months are left for assembly elections to begin. All political parties have stepped up their preparations. On Sunday, Samajwadi Party (SP) national president and former state CM Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the Yogi Adityanath government is tapping the phones of his party leaders and CM Yogi himself listens to these recordings in the evening.

Akhilesh Yadav's allegation against the BJP government in UP comes at a time when the Income Tax Department has raided the residences of some of his close associates including SP national secretary Rajiv Rai in Mau. Akhilesh Yadav levelled an allegation against CM Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Sunday. Akhilesh Yadav said, "I want to tell you that all our phones are being heard. The calls of the Superintendent of Police office and those associated with us are being heard. He warned the media, 'If you are related to us, know that your call recording is also there.''

On the question of alleged use of administrative officers in phone tapping, Akhilesh said some of them are doing so because they are helpless and some officials want to please the government even in the "last days" of the government. He said tapping and raids are not new. He said, "Wherever elections are held, the BJP has been taking such steps.''
