After Maharashtra government’s imposition on the manufacture, use, sale and distribution of all plastic materials like plastic bags, spoons, plates, bottles and thermocol items, Uttar Pradesh government have also announced the sudden plastic ban after 14th July.
To enact the announcement UP government has directed to impose an immediate ban on plastic bags below 50 microns from 15th July onward. Pollution Control Board, Lucknow Development Authority, the Excise Department, and the market committee was called in a meeting by Kaushal Raj Sharma, the District Magistrate where the respective decisions were taken regarding the ban.
The Department of Commerce will also hold a meeting with trade unions in which it will be cleared to them that any stock that consists plastic bags less than 50 microns will be seized after the ban and any offend act by the unions will be subjected to punitive investigation.
Zonal officers were also directed by the municipal corporation to make sure that the directions regarding the use of plastic will be followed by all shopkeepers. Malls and five-star hotels are also got guidelines from the Department of Food and Drug Administration to drop the use of banned plastic bags after the timeline given.
From August 14 onward Rs 4000 would be charged by the municipal corporation from the offending shopkeepers. The magistrate has also passed the order to restrict the use of thermocol after August 15. Gutkha sold in plastic pouches will also be banned from 14th July.
Not only for plastic but the government is planning to make Lucknow tobacco-free. For the same, a campaign will be organized to put an end to public smoking, open sale of cigarettes, gutkha, tobacco, and others. Rs 100 to Rs 500 will be the penalty that is payable for any kind of offense.
Tobacco selling will also be banned within 100 meters of schools and hospitals.
Notably, Telangana government is also in the row to put such end to the non-biodegradable things municipal bodies across the state have received instructions to stop the use of plastics.
