BADAUN:  A 35-year-old man, allegedly tired of police harassment, has set himself on fire at the Kotwali Sahaswan Police Station premises on Monday late hours.

After being arrested by the police for fighting with his cousin, a young man named Shree Pal set himself on fire at a police station in Badaun. He was taken to the hospital in a critical condition and is still there.

According to doctors, he has about 80% burn injuries and is in severe condition.

Brother of Shree Pal, Kunwar Pal, stated: "My brother had been beaten by police before, and they had demanded money from us to free him. They repeatedly tortured us while pleading for more money. Even when I spoke with a senior police official, nothing was done to hold the neighbourhood police officers accountable for my brother's condition. They need to face harsh punishment." Despite the fact that both parties had been arrested, Shree Pal received harsh punishment from the authorities, according to Kunwar Pal.

Shree Pal lit himself on fire on Monday night after pouring kerosene on himself and running inside the Sahaswan police station while yelling that the officers were setting him up. He was saved and taken right away to the medical school.

O.P. Singh, a senior superintendent of police (SSP), spoke with Shree Pal after meeting him at the hospital.
Later, the SSP said: "A man, who had a fight with his cousin over a land-related dispute, set himself on fire inside the Sahaswan police station to put pressure on police as a cross FIR was registered against him. We are carrying out further investigation in this case."
