KANPUR: A video has gone viral on the social media platforms where a police officer in Kanpur is seen brutally beating a laldy in lock-up.

The video, which was posted on the Samajwadi Party's Twitter account, has sparked outrage among the public. The video, which is longer than two minutes, shows the woman pleading for aid and shouting in pain as the policeman, who is thought to be a sub-inspector in Kanpur's Kakwan area, ruthlessly beats and manhandles her.

The police is apparently aware that his actions are being recorded and he tries to defend himself, saying "You people are not treating police appropriately, whatever you doing is wrong." He still assaults the woman, though, right up until the finish of the video.

The Samajwadi Party has denounced the incident and demanded an inquiry into the police officer's behaviour.
In a tweet, it has demanded an investigation into the case and strict action against the police.
