UP: Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, has begun preparations for the 2022 Magha Mela: The Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh has commenced planning for the 2022 Prayagraj Magha Mela in light of the development of the new COVID-19 Omicron strain.

District Magistrate Prayagraj Sanjay Kumar Khatri said, "Due to the introduction of a new COVID varient, we are on high alert. For testing, we have stationed our crew at a railway station and an airport. At the fairgrounds, we'll also set up testing camps."

Magh Mela is an annual Hindu celebration conducted around river banks and Hindu temples in the month of Magha, according to the Hindu calendar. On the day of Paush Purnima, devotees take a holy dip at Sangam, the confluence of the Yamuna, Ganga, and legendary Saraswati. Pilgrims dwell in tents on the banks of Sangam during the whole month of Magh Mela, taking an early morning bath and performing other religious chores.
