UP: Sambhal cold storage godown collapsed, 8 labours died

LUCKNOW: UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday  expressed condolence on the storage collapse incident in Sambhal, which killed eight people. The CM also announced immediate relief for the victims.

According to a formal declaration, the Uttar Pradesh government will provide each family of a deceased person Rs 2 lakhs and each critically injured person Rs 50,000. Also, it has been announced that all injured people would receive free medical care. The statement said that a committee has been set up, headed by the Commissioner and the DIG, to look into the incident's reasons and issue a report soon.

CM Yogi offered his condolences earlier in the day on the fatal roof collapse event. CM Yogi posted on Twitter, saying, "It is really terrible that so many people died in the cold shop accident in Chandausi, Sambhal district. I offer the families of the deceased my sympathies. May Lord Shri Ram provide the deceased a seat at his holy feet and the family members the fortitude to endure this great sorrow. Prana Shanti!"

According to reports, eight persons were killed overall and 11 have so far been saved after the roof of a potato cold storage fell in the Chandausi area of Sambhal. On Thursday, the event took at about 11:30 a.m. Rescue efforts are being carried out by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams.

Sambhal DM Manish Bansal said that sniffer dogs are being used by the authorities to look for anybody who may be trapped among the rubble. "11 persons have been saved, and 5 have lost their lives. Sniffer dogs are being used by NDRF to look for trapped individuals. Our force has been boosted for the morning. More NDRF and SDRF teams will visit in the morning," he said.

Chakresh Mishra, Superintendent of Police (SP), Sambhal, stated that an FIR has been filed against the owner. "FIR was filed against the owner and the other two parties. We have four persons in custody who will be questioned. The primary suspects are evading capture and are being searched. Once the debris is cleared, we will be able to determine the true cause of this building's collapse "he said It was noted earlier in the day that the godown was already in poor shape.

The proprietors were named as Ankur and Rohit Agarwal. The police had reportedly arrested both of the proprietors, according to Moradabad DIG.

"In this case, an FIR has been filed. Ankur Agarwal and Rohit Agarwal are the two defendants who have been charged under section 304. The accused are both the property owners where the incident occurred "he said.

The DIG said, "An investigation at the ADM level has also been done in this case. The part of the cold storage that has collapsed was built some time ago and was not constructed by following the laid down standard".
