UP Teacher Recruitment Reservation Scam Exposed: New Selection List Ordered by Allahabad HC

The recruitment process of 69,000 teachers in Uttar Pradesh has come under scrutiny after what is being called a "reservation scam" was revealed. Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera highlighted the issue on Saturday, following a significant ruling by the Allahabad High Court on Friday. The court ordered a new selection list to be prepared for the 69,000 assistant teachers in the state.

Pawan Khera took to social media platform X to express his views on the situation. He asserted, "The reservation scam in the recruitment of 69,000 teachers in Uttar Pradesh has been exposed. The Congress party has always stood firm on the belief that reservation is a constitutional right that cannot be taken away under any circumstance."

The Allahabad High Court's order also took into account the ongoing academic session, directing that the new list should be prepared in a way that minimizes the negative impact on the teachers currently employed. This was done to avoid disruption in the students' education.

Additionally, the court revised a previous directive, stating that candidates from reserved categories who qualify based on general merit should be shifted to the general category.

Congress leader Khera further criticized the situation, claiming that this was part of a larger scheme to undermine reservations. He emphasized, "There is a deliberate effort to privatize government institutions and erode the reservation system. Lateral entry recruitment is another step in this well-planned conspiracy. We must protect the reservation system and the Constitution."

The court's ruling also confirmed the cancellation of the January 5, 2022 selection list, which included 6,800 candidates from the reserved category. The bench directed the state authorities to finalize the new selection list within three months.

The case was brought to the court by appellants who challenged the reservation method used during the recruitment process. They argued that the reservations set by the state were incorrect and questioned the legitimacy of the appointments of 6,800 teachers from the reserved category.

A previous single-judge ruling had determined that candidates benefiting from reservation in the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) should not be placed in the unreserved category, even if they met the general category cut-off marks.
