Lucknow : People in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and several other states are currently experiencing extreme heat, making it difficult for residents to leave their homes and causing the streets to be noticeably empty. Amidst this heatwave, residents are eagerly awaiting the monsoon rains. There is some relief on the horizon for UP residents as the Lucknow Meteorological Department has predicted the possibility of rain in some areas of the state on June 18 and 19. While western UP is expected to remain dry, eastern UP may see rain and thundershowers. Additionally, some areas might experience strong winds blowing at speeds of up to 35 km per hour.

Meteorologists have warned of a heatwave continuing across most parts of UP on June 18, with a severe heatwave expected in some areas on June 19. In Lucknow and surrounding regions, the weather is expected to remain clear with winds blowing at 20 to 30 km per hour. Daytime temperatures could reach 45 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures might be around 32 degrees.

The city of Agra has been particularly affected by the heat, experiencing record-breaking temperatures. Since April, the city has faced relentless heatwaves, with temperatures reaching 48.6 degrees Celsius on May 30, matching a 45-year record. In the first week of June, temperatures have consistently exceeded 40 degrees Celsius, with four heatwaves recorded and nighttime temperatures staying above 30 degrees. A heatwave alert has been issued for Agra until Thursday, with temperatures expected to remain above 45 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists predict hot winds during both day and night.

Doctors advise residents to avoid going outside between 12 noon and 4 pm, especially the sick, elderly, and children. It's crucial to stay hydrated by drinking water frequently and avoiding alcohol, tea, coffee, and carbonated drinks, which can dehydrate the body. To minimize heat-related health issues, people should limit outdoor activities to cooler times of the day and maintain a cool indoor environment.
