We're only halfway through the year, and we've already witnessed some incredible cinema hits. John Wick: Chapter 4, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie have all dominated the box office. And let's not forget about Cocaine Bear!

But 2023 still has plenty of big-screen thrills in store. These films will undoubtedly make their way to the best streaming services a few months later, ensuring that everyone gets a chance to enjoy them.

That's why T3 has curated a list of six films arriving in theaters during the remainder of the year that will leave audiences awestruck. However, they also raise the question: "What will the Oscars overlook this time?"

Barbie

Could this be the film of the year, a winner of the prestigious "Best Picture" award at the Oscars, and ultimately hailed as a modern classic? Or will Barbie fall short, leaving a lasting mark as a career-ending misstep for all involved?

Chances are, it will fall somewhere in-between.

Bold, vibrant, and filled with self-awareness, the Barbie movie is a tongue-in-cheek, meta exploration of beauty, consumerism, and the complexities of life and reality. Director Greta Gerwig (known for her work on "Little Women") and Noah Baumbach (renowned for "The Squid and the Whale") are finally bringing their neon pink vision to life this July. Brace yourself for an unforgettable experience in more ways than one.

Personally, I have incredibly high hopes for this film. I believe it will catch audiences off guard, subvert their expectations, and honestly, it won't be what many anticipate.

Barbie hits UK cinemas on July 21, 2023.

The Creator

Marking the long-awaited return of British director Gareth Edwards to the science fiction genre after his underrated gem, Rogue One (2016), The Creator immerses us in a future war between humanity and artificial intelligence.

John David Washington shines as Joshua, a hardened ex-special forces agent consumed by the loss of his wife. Recruited to track down and eliminate the elusive Creator, the mastermind behind an advanced AI weapon capable of ending the war—and potentially wiping out mankind.

Despite the breathtaking first trailer, there is an astonishing lack of press and publicity surrounding this film. Few have much information about it, and even within the sci-fi community, the buzz seems non-existent. Has the movie-going public lost their appetite for this genre after countless comic book adaptations? Or can Gareth Edwards defy expectations, offering a thought-provoking and sophisticated experience that will reignite our love for the cinema?

All will be revealed on September 29, 2023, when The Creator debuts in the UK.

Oppenheimer

This gripping tale delves into the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the American scientist who played a pivotal role in the design, development, and construction of the Atomic bomb. Directed by the visionary Christopher Nolan, this film may well be his most ambitious undertaking yet.

Spanning three hours and earning an R-rating, Oppenheimer is already generating tremendous Oscar buzz, thanks to its compelling subject matter and an astonishing ensemble cast. Cillian Murphy, best known for his role in "Peaky Blinders," takes on the lead as Oppenheimer himself. But the star-studded lineup reads like a who's who of A-list actors and award winners. This movie has all the potential to become an early frontrunner for the coveted

title of "Film of the Year."

Even considering Nolan's remarkable filmography, Oppenheimer promises to be his crowning achievement, an unforgettable masterpiece designed to deliver the perfect viewing experience. The exact release format, as yet undisclosed, will surely astonish audiences.

On July 21, 2023, Oppenheimer will grace the screens of the UK alongside Barbie.

Dune: Part Two

Picking up where Denis Villeneuve's first installment left off, Dune: Part Two continues the saga of Paul Atreides as he embraces his destiny as the prophesied Messiah of Arrakis. His path is treacherous, as he finds himself locked in a deadly conflict with the galactic Emperor Shaddam IV, the powerful Spacing Guild, the nefarious Harkonnens, and even factions within his own people.

The second film promises to deliver more of what made the first one exceptional, with an expanded cast that now includes the likes of Dave Bautista from "Guardians of the Galaxy" and Austin Butler from "Elvis." Adding to the already impressive lineup, Hollywood royalty Christopher Walken graces the screen.

The first film astounded audiences on every level, and there's no doubt that the sequel is in the capable hands of Villeneuve.

Prepare for the saga's next chapter on November 3, 2023, when Dune: Part Two storms into theaters—though for now, it will only be a temporary conclusion.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2

Following the triumph of the initial "Afterlife" installment and considering the enduring appeal of the Ghostbusters franchise, it was only a matter of time before a sequel was announced.

Details are scarce at this point—we don't have a trailer or even a confirmed title. However, reports suggest that the film will feature the return of the new, young cast from the previous movie. And, excitingly, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson are said to reprise their iconic roles.

Unfortunately, there's no sign of Sigourney Weaver or Rick Moranis being enticed back, but I suppose we can't have it all!

Principal photography is currently underway in New York, and glimpses of new logos are beginning to surface on social media. Let's hope that the ongoing writers' strike and the looming possibility of an actors' strike don't hinder the film's anticipated December release. A little "busting action" during the Christmas holidays would be a delightful treat.

Stay tuned for the confirmed cinematic release date of Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2.
