Parliament approves Wage Code Bill providing minimum wages for workers

NEW DELHI:  Rajya Sabha, has passed the Wage Code Bill 2019 to end gender discrimination in the minimum wage to workers. According to the bill, social security of workers will be promoted and business environment will be eased.

Labour Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar says, it will benefit 50 crore workers in the country. The Bill seeks to settle a law, payment and bonus matters by adjusting four labour laws. Introducing the Bill in the Rajya Sabha, Union Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar said, every worker has the right to lead a dignified life.

The government has included 17 of the 24 recommendations made by the Select Committee during the Biet Lok Sabha. He said, the rights of the states will be protected and the Centre will not interfere. A tripartite committee will decide the minimum wage which will include trade unions, workers and state government representatives.

This salary will be implemented throughout the country which will be the right of every worker. It will also help in settling wage payment cases on monthly, weekly and daily basis. The Bill will also ensure that there is no gender discrimination among workers. As per the Bill, the salary will be redefined. Now, there are 12 definitions of salary at different levels. The Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on 30th of this month.
