UPPSC Exam: Follow these tips to avoid negative marking

The negative marking system is helpful for those who are qualified and have a good grasp on the exam, on the other hand, a hindrance for weak students. In recent times, extensive changes have been done in the UPPCS examination on the lines of Union Public Service Commission. In order to prevent the tendency of rhetoric in the preliminary examination, a negative marking of one third mark has been provided on each wrong answer. That is, 0.33 percentage points will be deducted if the answer to the question is incorrect. Due to which solving the questions by rhyme in the preliminary examination can prove harmful.

So let's know how to avoid negative marking.
The preliminary examination consists of two question papers. General Studies first question paper in which general knowledge questions related to the country and the world are asked. Which is selected on the basis of merit in the preliminary examination. 150 questions, 200 marks are asked in it. The determination of cut off for selection depends on the level of questions. Based on the trends of the past years, it can be said that the cut off is around 70 percent. Whereas questions related to CSAT are asked in General Studies Second Paper. Which consists of 100 questions, 200 marks. This question paper is qualifying. It is mandatory to get 33 percent marks.

Now your selection or rejections will also depend on the strategy to deal with the challenge of negative marking. Most students believe that in the case of negative marking, they should solve the same questions, on which you are completely sure of the answer. This is only appropriate if you know the correct answers to more than 70 percent of the questions. In such a situation you will have to resort to rhyme. The strategy of rhetoric should be made on the principle of probability. Do not try to solve such questions about which you do not know anything. Each question has four options. The questions of which one or two alternatives are known, may or may not be one of them. Then you must take the risk of rhyme. You can solve it on the principle of cancellation or acceptance. According to probability theory, if you do not gain by doing this, then there will be no loss also. If you are close to 70 percent marks, then in this way only solve the selected questions. If far from the target, solve more questions. So that the average of your answer is around 70 percent cut off.

Read the entire question paper in two stages in the examination hall. In the first step, solve the questions that come up. In the second phase, solve difficult and such questions, which have dilemma in the correct answer. For this, select one of the relevant options, removing the incompatible options. It has often been seen that the answer that the mind clicks on the first time is the correct answer. This then leads to confusion by looking at other options. Question papers should be read very carefully and focused. With this, the question must be read till the end and all options. It is often seen that by reading the incomplete question in haste or looking at the first or second option, students answer, due to which five to six easy or upcoming questions become wrong.
