New Delhi: Uproar in Rajya Sabha after BJP President Amit Shah said that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi signed Assam accord in 1985, which was similar to NRC. He further alleged that the grand old party Congress did not have courage to implement it, while Bhartiya Janta Party showed the courage to do this.

Following this Congress MPs protested in the well of the house and Rajya Sabha adjourned till 1.10 pm after uproar by Congress during Amit Shah's statement on NRC Assam issue.

Meanwhile BSP chief Mayawati also fired salvo on the Center and said that Citizenships of 40 lakhs minorities have been almost seized in NRC draft. She alleged that in BJP-ruled Assam if people living for a long time there, haven't been able to provide proof about their citizenship and it doesn't mean they should be thrown out of the country.

On the other hand Tripura CM Biplab Deb on NRC Assam issue said that  there is no demand for NRC in Tripura adding that everything is systematised in Tripura.

He asserted, “ I think this is not a big issue even for Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal ji is capable of managing it. Some people are trying to create panic and distrub the environment”.

On a related note TMC, Aam Aadmi Party and Samajwadi Party MPs staged protest in front of Gandhi statue in Parliament over NRC Assam issue.
