SRINAGAR: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has approved 28 officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) for induction into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) 
The IAS shortfall in the union territory, where only 55 of the 75 open positions in this cadre are now filled, will be addressed by the induction of local officers.

14 of the 28 officers inducted into the IAS are currently serving, and 14 have subsequently retired. The officers from the 1999 JKAS class are the primary beneficiaries of this induction, while a few retirees from batches before 1999 have also been included. After 12 years, the procedure for integrating local officers into the IAS has finally been completed.

Induction was approved at a meeting presided over by a UPSC member and attended by two Joint Secretary level officers deputed by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, principal secretary-general administration department (GAD), Atal Dulloo, additional chief secretary agriculture, and Manoj Kumar Dwivedi.

28 officers were inducted; eight were assigned the year 2013, five were assigned the year 2016, four were assigned the year 2017, and 11 were assigned the year 2018.
