CINCINNATI: An armed man who attempted to breach the Federal Bureau of Investigation( FBI)’s Cincinnati office was shot and killed by police after he fled the scene, leading to an hourlong standoff Thursday afternoon, the Ohio Highway State Patrol said.

According to Lt. Nathan Dennis, a patrol spokesperson, the guy was shot after he pointed a gun against police around 3 p.m.

Officials said the man was wearing body armor and was chased onto a highway before abandoning his car on adjoining country roads backed by woodlands and farm fields just off I-71, some 45 miles (72 kilometres) northeast of Cincinnati.

Officials warned of an upsurge in threats against federal investigators in the days following a search of former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

According to federal officials, the man "attempted to breach" the FBI office's visitor screening area and fled when officers confronted him. According to Lt. Nathan Dennis, an Ohio State Highway Patrol spokesperson, after running onto Interstate 71, he was noticed by a trooper and fired rounds as the trooper pursued him.

The man fled the freeway north of Cincinnati, abandoning his car on rural roads and exchanging gunfire with authorities. The man suffered "unknown injuries," but no one else was wounded, according to the patrol.

As a helicopter soared above the location, state highway employees closed off routes leading to the scene. Officials closed a mile radius around the freeway and asked residents and business owners to lock their doors and stay inside. The interstate is now open.
