An army general who is involved in the ground work team to roll out the vaccine has informed that the pilot rollout of COVID-19 vaccine in the United States will begin as early as Monday. Pfizer and its partners are now involved in hot core preparation to get the vaccine out in the world’s hardest hit country. The health department has planned to roll out the first set of vaccine which includes 2.9 million shots to be given to healthcare workers and the elderly, who are at the highest risk of contracting the virus which has killed the most number of people in the US.
Healthcare workers will receive jabs on Monday, and nursing home residents by the end of the week, US Army General Gustave Perna informed in a press call. He added how inoculating 330 million people of the USA could become a challenge, more emphasis towards logistics, for the Pfizer shot needs to be stored at -70 degree Celsius. "We have a lot of work to do. We are not taking a victory lap. We know road ahead of us will be tough," Perna said. Along with Pfizer's partner BioNTech, Pfizer is to deliver the vaccine to 145 locations in the country on Monday.
On Friday, the US FDA authorised emergency use of Pfizer’s shot as the country continues to record a surge in the number of cases and deaths. Post-pilot roll out 636 additional locations across the country will receive doses on Tuesday and Wednesday. Pfizer is to make more doses once the existing ones are dispatched. The Operation Warp Speed mandates the vaccine should be available across all healthcare facilities in the US within three weeks, it is a part of the program.
