NEW YORK: As per the terms of a settlement reached between the former president's defence attorneys and Manhattan prosecutors, former president Donald Trump won't be handcuffed when he turns himself in next week in New York to face criminal charges, defence attorney Joe Tacopina said on March 31.
The security is being reportadly co-ordinated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), New York City Police Department Secret Service, and New York City court officers.
Tacopina said in an interview that he expected the arrest otherwise to proceed as a matter of routine on Tuesday when Trump is due to appear to face an indictment following a grand jury investigation of a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels during Trump's 2016 campaign.
"I have no idea how it will all turn out. There is no manual that outlines how to charge a former US president with a crime, "added Tacopina.
The office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg could not be reached right away for comment on Tacopina's remarks.
Tacopina claimed that the news of the indictment astonished both Trump and his legal team: "We were all initially shocked. I didn't think they were going to go through with this because there isn't a crime taking place."
According to a court document, a judge has granted the Manhattan district attorney permission to inform the public that a grand jury has indicted former President Donald Trump.
