US House: Nancy Pelosi announces reelection bid in 2022 midterms

WASHINGTON:: Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat from California, has confirmed that she will run for reelection in the midterm elections this year.

"While we've come a long way, there's still a lot more that can be done to better people's lives. The assault on the truth, the assault on the US Capitol, and the state-by-state assault on voting rights have all put our democracy in jeopardy. This election is extremely important. Nothing less than our democracy is at stake "Pelosi made the announcement in a video broadcast to Twitter on Tuesday.

"But, as the saying goes, we don't agonise, we organise, which is why I am running for reelection to Congress and politely seeking your support. It would mean a lot to me and I'd be grateful for it "she continued. The Speaker, reportedly, did not say whether she would run for House Democratic leadership in the upcoming elections in November.

Pelosi, who will turn 82 in March, has been a member of the US House of Representatives since 1987, representing California. She stated in 2018 that this will be her final term as House Speaker.
