Washington: The US is working with its closest allies to impose new sanctions on China if it decides to support Russian military operations in Ukraine, according to Reuters.

Beijing recently revealed plans to try to end the conflict peacefully, rejecting claims it provided lethal aid to Moscow.

The new economic sanctions are currently the subject of "consultations" between Washington and foreign partners, particularly from G7 countries, several unnamed US officials told the outlet on Wednesday.

He would not go into more detail about possible sanctions, saying only that the discussions are preparing for possible action.

The US and other Western countries have repeatedly warned China that they believe Beijing wants to arm the Russian military for its campaign against Ukraine. The report has come after these warnings.

In a recent interview with The Associated Press, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg echoed the allegations, claiming "we've seen some indications that they may be planning for this," but stopped short of providing any evidence.

In the event that Beijing renders a lethal helping hand to Moscow, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Tuesday that Washington would "not hesitate" to target Chinese companies with sanctions.

Blinken stressed that the action would have "implications and consequences" and said he had raised the matter with top Chinese diplomat Wang Yi when he spoke at the Munich Security Conference last month.

China has denied the allegations, calling them "baseless speculation", saying it has no intention of arming the Russian military and condemning Washington for its hypocrisy.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said on Monday, "The US has no right to dictate China-Russia relations, and we will never accept coercion and pressure from the US."

She went on to point out that it was Washington, not Beijing, that was "putting lethal weapons on the battlefield in Ukraine."

While Western countries have long pressured China to break ties with Russia, Beijing has come under fire since unveiling a 12-point plan last month for a diplomatic solution to the conflict in Ukraine.

Although US officials swiftly rejected the plan, claiming that Beijing had embraced "Russia's false narrative about the war" and was not "serious" about ending hostilities, Moscow proposed Has indicated a willingness to "carefully analyze" the specifics.
