SAN FRANCISCO:  A US judge has reportedly dismissed  a petition filed by former US President Donald Trump to have his Twitter ban lifted.

According to reports, Judge James Donato of the San Francisco federal district court left the door open for Trump and other plaintiffs to file an amended complaint against Twitter that is consistent with his written judgement to dismiss the lawsuit in its entirety.

On January 8, 2021, the microblogging network banned Trump, citing the risk of inciting further violence in the aftermath of the Capitol riot by a mob of Trump fans two days prior.

Last year, Trump, the American Conservative Union, and five individuals sued Twitter and its co-founder Jack Dorsey on behalf of themselves and a class of other platform users who were banned.

The decision comes nearly two weeks after Trump said that he had no interest in returning to Twitter even if his ban was lifted by Elon Musk, the Tesla CEO whose $44 billion deal to buy the business was accepted by the board of directors.

Trump was reportedly an active Twitter user before the ban, tweeting an average of more than 30 times per day at the conclusion of his presidency. Trump had about 90 million Twitter followers at the time of the suspension.
