RAMALLAH: the prime Minster of Palestinian urged the United States not to block Palestine's bid for full UN membership.  

As per the statement released by the Prime Minister's office on Wednesday, Mohammed Ishtaye made the comments: " The US has been urged not to obstruct Palestine's application for full membership in the UN"    at a meeting with Hady Amr, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Israeli and Palestinian Affairs, in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

In the absence of political attempts to resolve the Palestinian issue, "we want to move the political file again by requesting full membership in the UN," the prime minister stated, pleading with the US "not to disrupt that endeavour."
He was cited as saying, "It is vital to support the Palestinian strategy to request a full UN membership and to turn the pledges of the US administration over Palestine into effect."

His comments came after Israeli media claims that the US would exercise its veto if the UN Security Council were to consider Palestine's bid, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

According to reports in Israeli media, the US administration has warned against and pushed the Palestinian Authority not to participate in the Security Council voting process.

The United Nations General Assembly has given Palestine the status of non-member observer state in 2012.
