Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal crashed out in the second round of the US Open. He was confronted by second seeded birthday boy Dominic Thiem of Austria. The theme beat Nagal with direct sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-2. It was the first time after 7 years that an Indian men's singles player had reached the second round of the US Open, before Sumit, Somdev Devvarman, had achieved this success in 2013.
Sumit Nagal, a resident of Haryana, may have been defeated in the second round, but still received about Rs 73 lakh. Serena Williams, who was in her 24th Grandslam Award exercise, won the third round by winning in direct sets. Serena, who won 6 of 23 Grandslam tournaments at Flaxing Meadows, defeated 117th-ranked Russian player Margrita Gasparyan 6-2, 6-4 at Arthur Ace Stadium World on Thursday night.
Serena's next competition will be the 2017 US Open winner and 26th seed Saloni Stephens, who defeated Olga Gorvatsova 6-2, 6-2. Serena's record against Stephens is 5-1, but the final match between the two was at the French Open in 2015. Stephens last defeated Serena at the 2013 Australian Open. In the same men's category, experienced Andy Murray and Grigor Dimitrov crashed out of the men's singles, while third-seeded and last year's runner-up Daniil Medvedev defeated 116th-ranked Australian Kristafer Okonell 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. With this, Sumit Nagal is now out of this phase.
