Naomi Osaka of Japan has become the Queen of the US Open 2020 once again, defeating Belarus' Victoria Azarenka 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the final. It was the 22-year-old Player's second US Open award. Azarenka suffered a failure in the US Open final for the third time. She has previously lost awards to Serena Williams in 2012 and 2013.
The World No. 9 Japanese Naomi Osaka lost the first set easily, 1-6, but then came back brilliantly to win the competition with the next two sets to her name, thus winning the final after losing the first set in 26 years. Wally became the first player before Spain's Arantja Sanchez Vicario won the award in 1994 after losing the first set to Steffi Graf.
Also, the award, including both semi-finals of the current US Open, ended in only three sets. This was the first time since 1980, when the finalist and the winner were decided in such a short time. Osaka, who was part of the campaign against apartheid throughout the world, wore masks with different names at the US Open, which dominated the media discussion. With this success, Osaka became the first Asian woman to achieve three Grand Slams, surpassing China's Li Na, who has two Grand Slam (2011 French Open, 2014 Australia Open) awards. The same achievement is huge.
