NEW DELHI: India's Sumit Nagal crashed out of the tournament after losing to Roger Federer in the US Open Tennis tournament. In the first round, he faced 20-time Grand Slam Roger Federer, where he suffered a 6-4, 1-6, 2-6, 4-6 defeat, but the young Indian player made a sensation by beating veteran Federer 6-4 in the first set. Federer, who has the highest Grand Slam-winning record in the men's singles, has the world ranking of 190.

Nagal is only the fourth Indian to win a set in the men's singles main draw of grand slams in 20 years. Only Somdev Devvarman, Yuki Bhambri, and Saket Mayanni managed to win one set in the Grand Slam tournament before Nagal in the last two decades. Sumit Nagle took advantage of Federer's double fault in the third game to take a breakpoint.

Federer and the audience could understand that Nagal broke his serve for the second time. He then saved his service after trailing 0-30. Federer made 19 spontaneous mistakes against Nagal's nine instincts in the first set. After losing the first set, Federer took over and started scoring at the net.  He was 5-0 ahead on the second set, but Nagal tried to make a comeback and won a game. In the third and fourth sets, Nagal equalized Federer's equalizer.
