In a major setback to Donald Trump, the US Parliament stopped Saudi Arabia from selling arms. The deal was worth $810 million (around Rs 56 thousand crore). President Donald Trump approved the deal with Saudi Arabia earlier this year. Trump used the emergency provision for this.

The deal was approved by the Upper House Of Delhi. It was only to be sealed by the White House after it passed the lower house. Amid tensions in West Asia, the Trump administration is moving fast towards supplying arms and other military equipment to Saudi Arabia as well as the United Arab Emirates and Jordan.

There are speculations that President Trump may use his prerogative to veto the decision of the Opposition Democrat Party's majority House of Representatives. In fact, there is a deep resentment among US politicians over the brutal murder of Washington Post Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi and the alleged involvement of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. At the same time, there is anger among politicians against the Saudi government over human rights violations in the ongoing war in Yemen.
