As military help to Ukraine, the US provides anti-aircraft guns (stinger missiles) to shoot down Russian planes and helicopters, just as it did in Afghanistan 42 years ago to eliminate the Soviet Union's position there.

If Russian fighter planes hit the cities, the stinger surface-to-air missiles will help Ukraine's air defence. So far, the Russian Air Force has remained neutral in the conflict. After Russian President Vladimir Putin called for a military campaign, the war between Russia and Ukraine has entered its eighth day.

The delivery of Stinger missiles to Ukraine is part of the aid package announced by the US on Friday. Apart from Stinger missiles, Ukraine will also receive Javelin anti-tank missiles. Germany has also stated that it will deliver approximately 500 stinger missiles. The Netherlands has also pledged to provide 200 stinger missiles in assistance of Ukraine.

The Stinger Missile is a small missile that may be fired from the shoulder by a single person. Man-portable air defence system is another name for it.

It can be launched from a variety of locations, including ground vehicles, helicopters, and airborne forces. It employs an infrared seeker to lock on to the heat in the exhaust of the engine, and it can hit anything flying below 11,000 feet.
