WASHINGTON – The US Senate cleared a USD1.5 trillion omnibus funding package on Friday to finance the federal government through the end of September in fiscal year 2022, putting it to President Joe Biden's desk for signature.
According to report, the Senate voted 68-31 to pass the package, which comprises USD730 billion in non-defense expenditures and USD782 billion in defence funding.
The vote came just days before a short-term funding solution for the government was slated to expire on Friday. The package also includes USD13.6 billion in supplementary financing for humanitarian, security, and economic aid relating to the Ukraine situation, which was adopted by the House of Representatives on Wednesday night.
The law, according to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, stops a destructive sequence of short-term continuing resolutions that have harmed the government's capacity to address serious issues. "We appreciate the leadership of the House and Senate in working together to pass this bill, and the President looks forward to signing it into law," she added.
