US Senate votes to repeal Joe Biden's vaccine mandate

Washington: US President Joe Biden's Covid-19 vaccine mandate for corporations has been overturned by the US Senate. Senators voted 52-48 on the resolution late Wednesday, which required only a simple majority to pass, according to reports.

Senators Jon Tester and Joe Manchin, both Democrats, voted with Republicans to send the bill to the House of Representatives. In the Democrat-controlled House, the resolution has an uphill battle, and Biden is anticipated to veto the law if it passes.

Businesses with at least 100 employees must force their staff to be vaccinated or undergo regular testing by January 4, 2022, according to the rule published by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Republicans feel it is an example of federal government overreach and a violation of the civil liberties of American employees. Several Republican states, as well as corporations and religious groups, have filed legal challenges to Biden's vaccine mandate.
